Ok, so my new blog has been created!
I won’t close this one down, but I will no longer post new entries here. I was attempting to merge business and pleasure here on this blog, but now that I have a photography website built for work (www.photographybymoireflux.com), I have created a blog that is strictly personal photography and expressions. I hope to continue to grow as a photographer in my professional and personal areas of creativity and artistry. You are welcome to follow my personal journey at peaceloveandphotographybymoire.blogspot.com!

This was one of those photo opps that was too precious to pass up. We have a future beautician. And she’s very serious about her craft.

A mentoring program which helps build young males into “men”. These guys participate in various experiences which help facilitate personal growth and development into strong, grounded, and educated black men, and well as team work and social awareness. This is just one of many interventions that they are involved with. This is a garden they have planted (in my neighborhood park) and tend to each week. The vegetables that they grow will be sold to help assist with sending them on a trip to Africa in the fall.

This is my friends next door neighbor, Wisdom. When I saw her outside playing with her pet snake, the was no way I could resist running to grab my camera. With a little coaxing, she was glad to show off for an impromptu photo shoot.

Here are some shots from the Art Show. It was the first time I sold my work at an event. An exciting night. Maybe I’ll host my own art show soon. Be on the look out!

A portion of my full-time job is in a community program that is called the Adaptive Sports and Adventures Program (ASAP). We provide different adapted sports and activities for people who have physical disabilities. One of our biggest fundraisers is called Cycle to the Sea which is a 180 Mile bike ride from Charlotte, NC to North Myrtle Beach, SC. Our participants cycle using handcyles, which are bicyles that you propel using your arms. There are also support cyclists that assist with fundraising and provide support along the way. The trip is made over a period of 3 days and they average 60 miles per day. It’s a life changing and awesome experience due to a hardworking and determined group of indivduals.

I was out cruising the other day and was brought to this fence. The artist came out of his home while I was taking the shots and proudly spoke with me about his geometric shapes that he’d been working on for his fence. He said that he wasn’t very fond of the wire fence and wanted to make it a little more interesting. He showed me a cool illusion with the geometric shape at the top of the post. From the side facing the street it was obviously a cube. He told me to stand at a spot in his yard inside of the fence, where he pointed out to me that it turns into a sphere. He said, “Now tell me how something can be a circle and a square at the same time?”

Art and Crime
Some call it Art. Others call it vandalism. I was driving down Old Statesville Rd. and caught a glimpse of this beautiful piece of art spray painted on the side of a train. I was instantly drawn to the pastel colors and the soft pattern of the graffiti design. I was in a hurry to get home and thought to myself that I’d catch a shot of it the next time I drove that road because the same trains often park, and remain there, regularly. Then I realized that to miss this shot, was not a gamble that I was willing to take. I drove past it and thought, “Live a little. Be spontaneous. So what that this shoot isn’t a plan. You have your camera, you have the time, and the train is there. Stop your car, turn it around, and be a photographer.”

On February 5th was my mom (and her twin brother’s) birthday. I didn’t blog on that day since we were celebrating, but I wanted to show her beauty to everyone. My mother has a caring and giving heart like no other, and a fun spirit and energy that I hope you can see in her eyes.

Ok, so I wasn’t able to capture any photos of our then democratic presidential candidate, now President, Barack Obama (or even catch a glimpse of him through the crowds for that matter), but I did enjoy shooting some of my fellow Obama fans and the atmosphere of the event, while listening to his voice. It was a beautiful experience.

This is a shot of a boy band I caught on the streets of downtown Charlotte at the corner of Trade and Tryon. Their beautiful sound gathered a crowd as people graciously dropped money into a bucket placed out front.

Each Sunday I drive past these classic landmarks on Old Statesville Road. The hardware store is open and running, selling fertilizer and other supplies, as well as the general store, who’s proud owner who is often sitting outside on the store’s porch.

These shots are from a family vacation to Charleston, SC. It is a beautiful city (not to mention wonderful shopping boutiques!) and unique in its architecture and “old southern town” look and feel. I also captured some of shots of Mason enjoying himself. These are some of my favorites. Enjoy.

Here are some of my favorite shots from around Greenville, NC. East Carolina University most often outshines the town of Greenville itself, but one Saturday afternoon I set out to capture some of it’s beauty by photographing it’s traditional small-town setting architecture, and landscaping.

I was wondering “where to start” with documenting this journey when sharing it with others. I decided to introduce myself at the beginning- with my film camera. I will begin the first several days sharing some of my favorites. Each day that I blog, I will share photographs in categories according to the subject or occasion. All of these images were taken with my manual Nikon FM 10 camera. Theses photographs were taken between 2001 and 2008.

Hi, All. Welcome to the official introduction of Moiré Flux to the world.
So, I assume that you are wondering who Moiré Flux is. She is me, and I am she. Moiré Flux is who I am as an Artist. She is my alter ego. She is the part of me who is dying to be free. The part of me that has been dizhireng krieattive xpreshune. Becoming Moiré Flux has been a process (hence the Flux) and started as a sudden awakening, from an uncomfortable stiffling, but felt very organic and natural to me. Becoming intouch with this part of myself required that I become more comfortable in my own skin and worry less about filling others’ expectations of myself. Moiré Flux is free-spirited, open-minded, and accepting. She never stops learning, growing, or changing the perspective from which she sees and examines the world. I hope that you will see this through my work. Moiré is the the girl that I am getting to know and am loving more and more everyday. I invite you to get to know me as Moiré Flux.
Moiré is a photographic term used to describe a wave-like patterned effect that results when there is more detail in the subject than a camera can capture. I felt like this is me. I have realized that there is so much more to me than I knew, and that is recognizable to others. There is more detail to Moiré than can be captured; whether it would be through the lens of a camera, or through the eyes of an observer.
Flux is a continuous change, passage, or movement. A friend suggested Flux. He said “A pretty picture in the midst of change. A beautiful image that is in the settling process or formation process creation.” And Moiré Flux was born.
She is me, and I am she.

♥Love
